What is Magnesia Zirconia Brick

Magnesia Zirconia Brick is a type of two-phase eutectic composite material made of MgO and ZrO2.

There are basically three methods for the production of Magnesia Zirconia Brick. 
1) The first method uses Magnesia Zirconia sand as the raw material to produce magnesia zirconia refractories with a uniform distribution of MgO and ZrO2. The feature for this method is synthesizing magnesium zircon sand first. MgO and ZrO2 are mixed, fine ground, shaped into balls and then made into sintered/fused Magnesia Zirconia sand by sintering/fusing. Then Magnesia Zirconia sand is ground, graded, batched, mixed, shaped and fired into ZrO2 composite magnesia refractories. This production process is the same to that of magnesia refractories.
2) The second method uses ZrO2 and magnesia sand to produce Magnesia Zirconia Bricks. ZrO2 is added into magnesia sand to produce ZrO2 composite magnesia refractories with different ratio of MgO/ZrO2. The process is almost the same to that of magnesia chromere fractories. 
3) The production method of special magnesia zirconia brick is a little different from the common magnesia refractories. Magnesia refractory aggregate particles are coated with a thin layer of ZrO2 based refractory. After dried and fired, there will be a firm ZrO2 sintered layer between periclase particles. It has good properties and has good thermal stability and low potential of cracking and peeling. 
4) Magnesia zirconia brick with a addition of 20% ZrO2·SiO2 belongs to MgO—2MgO·SiO2—ZrO2 refractories. Its binding matrix has a high corrosion resistance. Corrosion performance of this brick has been demonstrated in the use of regenerators and the melting chamber. Since its birth, this material exhibits good performance in the condensation zone after 10-year service, which it possible to be used in the upper portion of the regenerator. 
5) Magnesia Zirconia continuous casting nozzle brick is made of non-spherical sintered or fused magnesia sand (70% to 99%) and zirconia powder with a particle size of 1mm or less (30% to 1%) by kneading, molding and firing. The zirconia powder can be replaced with chromium powder. Besides, this brick has good corrosion resistance and high temperature strength.
