Magnesia-carbon bricks are fused magnesia, high-purity magnesia and flaky graphite as the main raw materials, and non-burning carbon-containing alkaline refractory manufactured by using phenolic resin as a binder. The production process is basically the same as that of general refractory bricks, but not It needs to be fired, and it only needs to undergo 200 ~ 250 "C heat treatment. During the high temperature use of magnesia carbon brick, carbon bond is formed. There is no mutual solubility relationship between magnesia and carbon materials in refractory materials. Magnesia and graphite are maintained separately. Its own characteristics and make up for their shortcomings each other, so that the magnesia-carbon brick has excellent slag erosion resistance, slag penetration resistance and thermal shock resistance.
 
Magnesia-carbon bricks are divided into four categories according to the amount of carbon: (1) C10%, MgO76% -80%; (2) C14%, Mg074% -76%; (3) C18%, Mg070% -72%; (4) ) C5%, Mg082% ~ 85%.
 
Used for slag line parts of various ladle refining furnaces. Magnesia-carbon bricks with lower carbon content are generally used (w (C) <14%).
The excellent slag resistance, erosion resistance and thermal shock resistance of magnesia carbon bricks depend to a large extent on the role played by graphite. Graphite can effectively prevent the penetration of slag, improve the thermal conductivity of bricks and reduce the elastic modulus of bricks. However, the increase of graphite content will reduce the strength and oxidation resistance of bricks. When graphite is added in an amount of 10% to -20%, the corrosion resistance of magnesia carbon brick is the best. The grain size of periclase has a great influence on the corrosion resistance of magnesia-carbon bricks.
 
Because the grain size of fused magnesia is larger than that of sintered magnesia, currently fused magnesia is often used in magnesia-carbon bricks.
